Spring Break Site Information - Mon Valley, PA

Join our team in the Monessen this spring and experience life in the valley by coming alongside them and the communities that make up the Mon Valley area. Our team have been living and working here since the fall and invite groups to partner with them in their ministry.

Service Sites

During Spring Break, our goal is to partner with ministries and programs that seek to address the very basic needs of Mon Valley residents. Many of these will be ministries that the team members have been involved with since the fall and/or in years prior. We desire to serve unselfishly, by doing whatever will truly help the community. Depending on the type of ministry with which we partner, you may be at a specific service site the entire week or you may partner with a couple of organizations on a rotational basis. You may have an opportunity to do some construction work, hang out with community youth, spend time with the elderly in nearby senior citizen centers or partner with social service organizations that minister to the needs of local residents. An example of a ministry we have partnered with in the past is the Salvation Army - providing shelter, food and clothing to people in need. We ask that when you come to serve Jesus in Monessen, you come to serve wherever He is.

Experiential Ministry Activities

As a part of your experience, we would like to provide a taste of culture as well as an opportunity for your group to connect with Christ on a corporate and individual level. The implementation of these activities would be coordinated between our intern team and your group's trip leader. Activities may include:

  • Wednesday night worship service with a local church
  • A progressive meal hosted by community members around the valley
  • Helping out at a local youth group's weekly gathering
  • A prayer walk lead by the local teenagers
  • "Interviewing" a community friend about their life and learning more from an insider's perspective
  • Taking part in a poverty simulation
  • Spending time with God in a half-day silent retreat
  • Playing dodge ball with local college students
  • Helping at HotSpot, a coffee shop ministry to the community

The service sites and experiential ministry activities listed above are all examples of what your group might partake in during your mission week. These examples are subject to change due to weather or availability. In case of change, suitable substitutes will be provided.
